This course follows the National Highway Sector Scheme 12 A/B/C/D, covering static temporary traffic management on motorways and high-speed dual carriageways, including online widening schemes.

This course is perfect for individuals starting their career in the temporary traffic management industry or those who do not yet hold an NHSS 12 A/B/C/D registration card.

- Basic Principles of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) and Site Practice
- Maintaining a closure
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, learners will:
- Understand the relevant codes of practice and documentation involved in traffic management
- Become familiar with Sector Schemes
- Understand the Quality Assurance process and NHSS documents
- Recognise the different types of roads across the UK road network
- Understand which roads and works are covered by specific NHSS documents
- Identify different classifications of “road users”, such as pedestrians, horse riders, and cyclists
- Understand terminology used in the TTM industry related to different roads
- Learn the processes required to become a qualified Operative and obtain a skills registration card, as well as the path to Supervisor level
- Be aware of Health and Safety requirements, including risk assessments and method statements
- Gain an understanding of various TTM equipment and its basic principles of use
- Know what constitutes a safety zone
- Understand general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
PPE Requirements
- Understand how to cross the carriageway safely (HSE CIS53)
- Be aware of different types of vehicles used in TTM and where they are deployed
- Understand the work environment and expectations for learners
- Know the safe way to enter and exit a site
- Understand the importance of maintaining sites and what this entails
- Learn how to respond to accidents and emergencies within the work area
