Introduction to the EMCC Operator Assessments Delivered by THS Training
Assessment Requirements
You must complete a minimum of three successful assessments per unit to qualify for this course. These assessments cover all the predetermined performance criteria outlined in the relevant Lantra Awards ePortfolio. All assessments must take place in a ‘live’ site environment, ensuring that learners apply their skills and knowledge in real-world situations. You must conduct the assessments in full accordance with the guidelines and requirements outlined in the relevant sector scheme document to maintain the integrity and quality of the qualification.
Certification
After successfully completing all assessments, you will receive a skills registration card issued by Lantra Awards. This card will confirm that you have met all the necessary criteria and are fully qualified. The certification remains valid for five years, allowing you to showcase your expertise and qualifications in traffic management.
Important Note
To keep your qualification valid, you must complete refresher training within six months of the certification expiry date. This training ensures you stay up to date with changes in regulations, safety procedures, and best practices. It will also ensure that your qualifications reflect the highest standards in traffic management. Without completing the refresher training, the qualification will expire, and you will no longer be able to perform duties related to the certification.

This course is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and procedures required to safely operate an Emergency Maintenance and Control Centre (EMCC) vehicle. The focus is on the critical tasks involved in the installation and removal of traffic management schemes, specifically on motorways and high-speed dual carriageway roads. Through this training, learners will gain the necessary skills to ensure these operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant traffic management regulations. By the end of the course, learners will have demonstrated their competence in these tasks and will have earned full EMCC Operator status, a recognised certification that confirms their ability to work in this demanding field.
As part of the certification process, learners are required to complete a minimum of one ‘live’ assessment, which consists of three distinct units. These units will test the learner’s practical abilities and understanding of the procedures involved in managing traffic schemes, operating EMCC vehicles, and ensuring safety during high-speed roadworks. All assessments must be conducted in a real-world environment, providing learners with the opportunity to demonstrate their competence under actual working conditions.
Once the assessment process has been initiated, learners will have a two-year period in which to complete all required assessments. This allows sufficient time for learners to gain practical experience and proficiency in each unit. The two-year window ensures flexibility, but learners must complete all assessments within this period to achieve certification. Upon successful completion of the assessments, learners will be awarded their EMCC Operator certification, which will be valid for a set period, typically 5 years, depending on the regulatory requirements. This qualification allows learners to undertake key responsibilities in traffic management operations, ensuring the safety of road users and maintenance crews on high-speed roads.
